GreenFields realizes IRB approved pitch at Scotstoun Stadium
GreenFields has completed a brand new rugby pitch at Scotstoun Stadium, a “state-of-the-art” complex in Scotland which will feature in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. GreenFields artificial turf system Slide Pro has achieved certification of the International Rugby Board (IRB) and will be used by the Glasgow Warriors.
Reopened in January 2010, Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow is one of Scotland’s most prestigious sports facilities which will be used for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. As well as a refurbished track and field, there is a 135m indoor track, strength and conditioning suite, and extended spectator accommodation.
Centre of excellence for rugby
In addition Scotstoun Stadium has become Glasgow Warriors rugby team’s headquarters and is a center of excellence for rugby. This comes through a partnership between Scottish Rugby Union, Glasgow City Council and Culture and Sport Glasgow. Gordon Thompson, managing director of GreenFields (All Sports) UK, says: ’Scotstoun Stadium has a proud name in Scotland and of course in Glasgow. The new facilities are really better than anything I could imagine. GreenFields is proud to be part of the centre of excellence for rugby, and to have built a synthetic turf system on which the Glasgow Warriors will train and compete.’
A natural and sustainable artificial turf system
The GreenFields REAL FT 65 Slide Pro synthetic turf system with Slide Pro fibers set a new standard for the long lasting performance of sports surfaces. The core of the Slide Pro fiber functions as a flexible spine providing a high resilience even after extensive use. Gordon Thompson explains: ‘Through the duo-tone make up and the softness of the fibers, this system offers everything player’s desire: a natural look and feel, a soft and natural touch, and natural playing characteristics. But the Slide Pro fiber does not only look good – it will keep its natural look and feel after intensive play and extensive use’.
Preferred Turf Producer for the International Rugby Board
GreenFields has been awarded the prestigious Preferred Turf Producer status by the International Rugby Board. Hugo de Vries, co-founder of GreenFields comments: “We are very proud to be a Preferred Turf Producer of the IRB. Clubs can be confident that choosing artificial turf systems for Rugby means that they are installing a surface produced to a globally recognized specification. Scotstoun Stadium is a perfect example of that.”
