The Palestinian Prime Minister Dr Salam Fayyad, who was present when the field was inaugurated by Chairman Sepp Blatter of FIFA, was delighted with the synthetic turf football field. “Who could ever have dreamt that there would be large Palestinian flags flying in this completely renovated stadium?”
The match, which was witnessed by thousands of Palestinians, was broadcast live in the entire Arabic world on the sports channel of Dubai and elicited numerous positive remarks.
On the field this weekend, the first international match of the Palestinian team was played on its own territory. It was a friendly match against Jordan that ended in a one-all draw. A miraculous event, considering that the Palestinians live under Israeli occupation; they have no state or capital. But as of Sunday, they do have a FIFA-certified stadium.
The field produced by GreenFields in Genemuiden was installed by Dutch experts who have by now installed 8 fields in Europe, Africa, South America and the Middle East in accordance with the FIFA 2 STAR concept and 20 fields in accordance with the FIFA 1 STAR concept. The field in AL-RAM was installed on the basis of the standards that apply to the FIFA 2 STAR concept and will be inspected by an international test institute in the short term. This is to ensure that international matches can be played on this field in the future.
What is unique about this synthetic turf system is, among other things, that a new type of synthetic turf fibre is used that perfectly imitates natural grass. This exclusive fibre was developed together with TenCate Grass Group and is recently also being used for these concepts.
