Football turf for Sandar Sport Club
Sandar Sport Club in the city of Sandefjord was founded 80 years ago. Like many sports clubs in Norway, it was founded by volunteers in the local community. Today, the club has over 1600 members and is an important pillar in the community of Vesterøya in Sandefjord.
Physical activity has always been an integral part of Norwegian society and more than 50% of the population is a member of at least one sports club. Most of them rely on voluntary work and goodwill to be able to develop necessary facilities for sports. Sandar Sports Club is a typical example; for years they have saved up money through bake sales and lotteries, sponsorship and voluntary work. Last year they decided to embark on the largest development project in the club’s history: two brand new artificial turf fields in 2011, followed by an indoor hall in 2012 and two 7-a-side artificial turf football fields in 2013.
Preferred football turf product
Bresco/Greenfields supplied and installed the turf. A combination of Bresco’s local presence in Sandefjord, several existing fields in the area, a preferred product and common values and ideals were used as reasons for choosing Bresco/Greenfields. – We built a strong partnership with Bresco from the beginning of the project. Their experience and expertise were of immense value to us, says Sandar Sports Club’s Rune Huseby, the man behind the project.
A weekend football cup hosted by Sandar Sports Club in August saw 7’500 young players from Norway and the rest of Europe come together in Sandefjord. This is the largest weekend cup for young players in Norway and a good opportunity for testing the new fields. Official opening, however, is scheduled for 24th September exactly 80 years after the club was founded. – What Sandar has achieved here is remarkable and I have nothing but admiration for all the dedicated volunteers and supporters who embarked on this project. We in Bresco are very proud and grateful for the opportunity to work with Sandar and look forward to continued cooperation, says Knut
Kaspersen, director of Bresco.
